Presentation by Mr Pasi Reinikainen


Mr. Pasi Reinikainen, researcher of the Finnish Jyväskyläi University held a presentation December 13 2005 at the Center for Evaluation Studies of Hungary about the results of TIMSS and PISA.

Mr. Reinikainen is working on a comparative analysis in relation to the TIMSS studies. He is analyzing the data of Finland, Japan, Russia, Latvia, England and Hungary to learn which background variables effect science performance primarily.

Mr. Reinikainen started his presentation by presenting the links between TIMSS and PISA, and then he explained the reasons behind the good results of Finnish students in PISA. He also described the effects of the publications of the PISA results on educational policy and research.

In the second half of his presentation Mr. Reinikainen he introduced original models dealing with the background variables instead of turning to the international indices. He has worked out unique models for each country, he presented his models for Finland and Hungary.
